Connor Lane is a dynamic performing artist, educator, and Doctoral of Musical Arts candidate. He is a first place winner in the Delta Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition; a prize winner in the Flute Society of Kentucky Young Artist Competition, the Beethoven Club Young Artist Competition, and the Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Contest; as well as a multi-year finalist in the University of Memphis Concerto Competition. His playing has taken him across North America as well as internationally to France, Belgium, and Germany. Connor Lane makes orchestral appearances including playing with the Corinth Symphony Orchestra and with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. An advocate for new music, Connor has been a part of numerous world premieres that range from small chamber ensembles to ballet.
A passionate and dedicated teacher, Connor has been invited to teach lessons as well as lead masterclasses and group classes in Southwest Tennessee and East Arkansas. He was also invited to be the flute fellow at Lutheran Summer Music where he was a musicianship class instructor, chamber coach, and orchestral mentor. At the collegiate level, he has been a graduate assistant and instructor of record for an undergraduate music appreciation course at the University of Memphis. Additionally, he was repeatedly invited to be a woodwind staff member for the Sycamore High School Marching Band, a flute instructor for Bowling Green State University’s Music Plus outreach program that reaches inner-city schools in Toledo, as well as teaching privately to all ages and ability levels.
From performing on stage to working behind the scenes, Connor is also no stranger to roles in arts administration. He is currently an active member of the Pedagogy Committee for the National Flute Association as well as the Director of Marketing and Administration and Competition Coordinator for the CanAmerican Flute Symposium. He has also had the opportunities to work as a peer advisor for undergraduates at the University of Memphis Scheidt School of Music, a chamber assistant in artist relations and communications at SpoletoUSA and Music From Angel Fire, and a digital assistant and social media manager for The Art of Practicing Institute with Madeline Bruser.
Connor Lane is also in demand as a page-turner, turning for such artists as Alessio Bax, Stephen Prutsman, Gabriel Sanchez, and Dianne Frazer. Recently, he has been invited to turn pages for Music From Angel Fire, SpoletoUSA, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Connor is currently pursuing his Doctoral of Musical Arts degree at the University of Memphis. He holds other performance degrees from SUNY Purchase College Conservatory and Bowling Green State University. His principal teachers include Tara Helen O’Connor, Conor Nelson, and Elise Blatchford.
He currently plays on a Miyazawa Vision flute with a Haynes 19.5K head joint.
